Watershed Management Planning

Community-based watershed management is a process for managing water resources that involves engaging stakeholders in making and implementing management decisions that are sustainable and appropriate for local conditions.

Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives (MAFRI) is involved in watershed management planning by providing technical information to the planning process. This often includes soils information such as soil texture, agriculture capability, and areas prone to wind and water erosion.  MAFRI was involved in the Integrated Watershed Management Planning (IWMP) process implemented by Manitoba Water Stewardship.

Ongoing research is required to better understand the role of agriculture in the watershed. MAFRI is supporting watershed research by providing technical support to the Manitoba Watershed Evaluation of Beneficial Management Practices (WEBs) steering committee.
