Budget 2019 - Getting The Job Done

GETTING THE JOB DONE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Budget 2019 keeps our promises by fixing the finances, repairing services and rebuilding our economy.

We're investing in results for Manitobans and continuing on the road to recovery by supporting the environment and sustainable development including:

  • continuing to implement the $40-million, made-in-Manitoba Climate and Green Fund, which will be managed by the new Climate and Green Plan Implementation Office;
  • providing income from the $102-million Conservation Trust to invest approximately $5 million annually for conservation projects that enhance natural areas and infrastructure, strengthen flood and drought protection, and support climate-change adaptation;
  • establishing realistic and practical carbon savings accounts;
  • engaging Indigenous knowledge holders and other professionals and partners, such as the International Institute of Sustainable Development, to effectively manage risk and plan for future climate-change action;
  • investing in critical prairie climate research that will guide partners supporting this valuable work;
  • expanding the fuel tax exemption for the forestry industry; and
  • working with four First Nations on the east side of Lake Winnipeg to explore Indigenous-led forest development.
