Manitoba Municipal Heritage Site No. 114
Union Bank Building Designation Date: May 11, 1994 The former Deloraine Times Building was built as the Union Bank in September 1899, by A.P. and F.T. Stewart, Deloraine pioneers and businessmen. The Royal Bank absorbed the Union Bank in 1925 and the building continued as a financial institution until 1940 when the structure was sold to William Bourns, owner of the Deloraine Times and Star. The newspaper was located in the former bank until the mid-1980s. The centrepiece of this Romanesque-inspired structure is the main floor façade with its brick arch and central keystone over the large window and entrance. Segmental arches, fanciful brick work above the second floor windows and a metal cornice with support brackets add a decorative touch. |
