Hours, Locations and Parking
- Please note that the Legislative Library has two locations
each with their own set of hours and
services. Reference service to the public may be limited
when the Assembly is in session. Check the Assembly web site for session dates.
Resources
Photocopies, prints, microprints and digital scans
For on site clients
- Letter or legal photocopies are 15¢ per side on a self-serve copier at either location. Ledger photocopies are 30¢ per side on the self-serve copier at the Main Reading Room. Please note that exact change is necessary at the Legislative Reading Room.
- A microfilm scanner and printer is available in the Main Reading Room only. Prints on paper are 50¢ each plus GST. Scans may be saved to CDs purchased from the Library only; CDs are $1.00 each including GST. Staff will assist clients to use the microfilm scanner and printer.
- Limited printing is available at the Main Reading Room public access work station. A limit of 20 letter size prints is available at 20¢ per side plus GST. Staff will assist clients.
For remote clients
- To receive letter or legal size photocopies or printouts by regular mail, there is a minimum charge of $5.00 for the first 20 pages and 20¢ for each subsequent photocopied page plus applicable taxes. Each side counts as one page.
- To receive ledger size photocopies by regular mail, there is a minimum charge of $5.00 for the first 8 pages and 50¢ for each subsequent photocopy plus applicable taxes. Each side counts as one page.
- To receive digital images by email, there is a $5.00 minimum for the first 5 images and 50¢ for each subsequent digital image plus applicable taxes.
- To receive microprints by regular mail, there is a $5.00 minimum for the first 5 prints and 50¢ for each subsequent print plus applicable taxes plus applicable taxes.
- To receive letter or legal size printouts by fascimile, there is a $5.00 minimum for the first 10 pages and 50¢ per additional page plus applicable taxes.
- You will receive an invoice by mail for any print or digital image sent to you by post, email or facsimile.
- The Library reserves the right to limit the number of prints or to return unreasonable requests.
Prior to visiting the Library
- It is best to contact the Library
prior to your visit to ensure the information you want is available
especially if you are making a special trip to Winnipeg.

Borrowing from the Manitoba Legislative Library
- The public may use general collection and reference items, government documents,
legislation, select online sources, newspapers, microfilms and
special collections housed while
at either location. The public cannot borrow directly from the
library; however your own public, university or corporate library
can borrow material from us on your behalf via inter-library
loan.
Genealogists And Historians
- The Legislative Library preserves and makes accessible heritage
collections about Manitoba which are useful in exploring
family and community history. Guides

optimal research time while at the Library.
- If you are unable to visit the library in person, please read
the section below on the various options
open to you.
Classroom Visits
- Projects involving groups of students should be arranged in
advance with the Head
of Reference Services to confirm that resources and equipment
available on site will meet the learning needs of the group.
- Resources especially useful
to students are federal and provincial government publications
including laws and statistics, United
Nations and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OECD) publications, as well as the Manitoba
newspaper collection.
If You Are Unable to Visit the Library
- If you cannot come to the Library in person, several options are available. You may email, write, telephone or fax your request to us.
- Your request should be specific with as much background information as you have available. Depending on the situation, background information includes dates, full names, geographic locations or bibliographic citations which are as complete as possible. Any other known facts pertaining to the query are frequently very useful.
- Without specific background information, staff may be unable to help or fill your request.
- The Library staff will help you find known items. If material is found in our collection, prints or scans can be made and sent to you for a nominal fee.
- If you decide to make a request, make sure your complete name and address are included, especially if you wish to receive prints or scans sent to you
- The Library reserves the right to limit the number of prints and scans or to return unreasonable requests.
- You may also consult our online catalogue and request items via your own library through interlibrary loan services.
