What is Multiculturalism?

Multiculturalism Brochure Manitoba is proud of its multiculturalism. But what does that mean? Multiculturalism means being able to celebrate our own cultural heritage and respect the diversity of each other’s communities. Whether it is through different languages, festivals, cultural practices and beliefs, values or food, cultural communities across Manitoba can proudly celebrate their heritage. But despite our differences, we are all united through our shared identity as Manitobans. As Manitobans we work hard to promote racial harmony, mutual respect and the promotion of equality for all citizens.

Multiculturalism is celebrated and valued between person to person, community to community and through government policies, laws and services. Multiculturalism is our past, present and future and with your help it will remain as one of the many sources of pride for Manitoba.

Proud of Our Diversity!

Cultural diversity is our heritage and is a fundamental characteristic of Manitoba; it makes us who we are. Being aware of other cultures in our province helps build community: a strong community is one that accepts and values each other’s differences.

The Government of Manitoba encourages partnerships and collaborations between different cultural groups; working together allows us to discover common similarities that we all share. By creating understanding between different cultural groups through increased education and awareness, respect is fostered for the beliefs and practices of others. Diversity awareness helps break down negative stereotyping about other communities, this helps all of us to create an environment where our children can flourish free of racism and discrimination.
