A proposal of Notice of Alteration and an Initial Environmental Assessment have been submitted by Taylor McCaffrey and TetrES Consultants Inc. on behalf of McCain Foods Limited for the proposed expansion of the current development, being a potato processing facility, which is located on of near Lot One, on Block One of part of Parish Lots Sixty Eight and Sixty Nine of the Parish of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. These proposals address pre-construction and construction activities including upgrading and expansion of the current facility, and also touch on the potential environmental impacts from the operation of this Development. An additional Initial Environmental Assessment further addressing the potential environmental impacts of the expanded plant operation will be forthcoming. The proponent has requested that the upgrading be dealt with through a staged approval process to allow the construction and eventually the operation of the expanded facility. Based of the review of these submissions, the Director has issued a letter of approval for the pre-construction activities to the proponent.
