Hecla Fish Station

The fishing industry dates back to the late 1870's where Lake Winnipeg was one of the largest and most important fresh water fisheries in North America, supplying whitefish, pickeral, sauger, sturgeon, pike, tulibee and goldeye.

A former ice house, is filled with displays which interpret the commercial fishery on Lake Winnipeg.  The Fish Station includes an old Yawl and Bombardier along with many of the tools used in the fishing process.  To top off the visit, a delicacy like fresh pickeral may be purchased from local fishermen.

Located in Hecla Village, off PTH 8.  Admission free.
