Manitoba's Protected Areas Initiative Manitoba's Protected Areas Initiative is a government program dedicated to building a network of protected areas that contains the tremendous biological diversity found in Manitoba's varied landscapes. Manitoba has became a partner and a leader in an international effort to protect the environment.

Manitoba's Ecological Reserves Program A program dedicated to protecting lands that contain many examples of the unique biological diversity found all over Manitoba.

System Plan for Manitoba's Provincial Parks The system plan establishes park boundaries, classifies each park, applies a series of land use categories to each park and helps guide park use and management.

Canadian Heritage Rivers System
is Canada’s national river conservation program.  It promotes, protects and enhances Canada’s river heritage, and ensures that Canada’s leading rivers are managed in a sustainable manner.  Manitoba is home to four of these outstanding rivers.”

Park Management Plans A management plan ensures that the main purposes of a park are considered when land use decisions are made. It provides details on what land uses are appropriate and assures that new activities or developments are compatible with the long-term management of the park.

Public Consultations The purpose of a public review is to obtain information and insight regarding values and uses of provincial lands, including Heritage Rivers and Park Reserves.
