SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INNOVATIONS FUND

Throughout the Province, Manitobans are doing their part to protect the environment and improve the quality of life within their communities.  They are actively working together to achieve a common goal by incorporating sustainable development practices into unique and innovative activities that will protect, enhance, conserve and rehabilitate Manitoba's environment for today and the future.

The Sustainable Development Innovations Fund (SDIF) is a $3.4 million Fund, which was created in October 1989 to provide financial assistance towards development, implementation and promotion of environmental innovation and sustainable development projects. The Fund was continued under The Sustainable Development Act, proclaimed
July 1, 1998.

The SDIF provides support to research studies, demonstration of new technology, community enhancement and educational projects, which further the sustainability of Manitoba’s economy, human health and social well-being, and help to protect Manitoba’s environment. The Fund encourages the creation of sustainable communities and helps them meet their needs by providing grant funding to projects that demonstrate:

  1. Partnerships between groups and individuals;
  2. Pride in the community;
  3. Concern for the environment.

The SDIF supports other targeted funding programs including: the SDIF Open Category, the Waste Reduction and Pollution Prevention (WRAPP) Fund, the Environmental Youth Corps (EYC), the Manitoba Climate Change Action Fund (MCCAF) and the Water Stewardship Fund.
