The Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development announced the 2010 winners of the Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Awards at an awards reception on November 25, 2010 at the Manitoba Legislature. 


Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability Award
Fresh Option Organic Delivery (FOOD), Winnipeg

  • A successful organic retail and delivery business committed to working with local producers to strengthen Manitoba’s organic market and increase the sustainability of our food system.

Action on Climate Change, Air Quality, and Energy Efficiency Award
Building Urban Industries for Local Development (BUILD) Inc., Winnipeg

  • A  non-profit, community-based social enterprise working in 16 of Winnipeg’s poorest neighbourhoods performing energy and water retrofits on low-income housing and providing supportive training and employment opportunities for low income individuals.

Honourable Mention
Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC), Brandon Manitoba

  • Through their Brandon Energy Efficiency Program (BEEP) and the Community Led Emission Reduction (CLER) pilot project, the organization has been making measurable improvements in reducing greenhouse gases and increasing energy efficiency.

Sustainability in Pollution Prevention and Product Stewardship Award
Open Mesh Screen Printing, Winnipeg

  • An eco-conscious screen printing shop dedicated to being a safe, environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional garment and paper screen printing.

Education for Sustainability Award
Diversity Food Services, Winnipeg

  • A new concept in campus dinning, Diversity Food Services, is an initiative of the University of Winnipeg and SEED Winnipeg, which trains and employs inner-city residents to create nutritious, affordable and ethnically diverse food options for students and surrounding community with a commitment to locally sourced, organic, and fair-trade ingredients.

Bob Austman, Manitoba Model Forest

  • As the education coordinator of the Manitoba Model Forest Mr. Austman has engaged thousands of youth and more than four hundred teachers in learning about the boreal forest and sustainable development.   

Research and Innovation for Sustainability Award
Manitoba Hydro, Manitoba Hydro Place, Winnipeg

  • A world class, energy efficient building that embodies Manitoba Hydro’s commitment to being a global leader in energy efficiency, sustainability, and green building design.
