Biological Samples

Regulations require all resident and non-resident hunters to submit samples from any harvested animal upon request.

You are being asked to submit the entire premolar tooth (must include the root) and complete reproductive tract (ovaries, uterus and uterine horns) from all female black bears to any Manitoba Conservation office or designate. Manitoba Conservation is no longer collecting and aging tooth samples from male black bears.

Submitting a black bear biological sampleAll hunters who submit a tooth and tract by October 31, 2010 will receive a crest and pocket knife the following fall, and will be advised of the animal's age and reproductive status.

When submitting teeth, hunters must complete a "Tooth Collection Tag," and for reproductive tracts a "Specimen Tag." Information required will include date of kill, sex, exact kill location and the hunter's address including postal code.

Mailed in samples will not be processed.
