    Threatened Grassland Birds Project

    Several bird species that are endangered in Manitoba are associated with grasslands, particularly in the southwest portion of the province. The Threatened Grassland Birds Project is an on-going effort to monitor the current population status and threats to the following species:

    • Baird's sparrow
    • Burrowing owl
    • Ferruginous hawk
    • Loggerhead shrike

    Information on other species whose habitat includes grassland areas is collected on an incidental basis. They include:

    • Chestnut-collared longspur
    • Grasshopper sparrow
    • Marbled godwit
    • Say's phoebe
    • Sharp-tailed grouse
    • Sprague's pipit
    • Upland sandpiper
    • Willet
