"East Side of the Lake Governance"

(Formerly known as the East Side Planning Initiative)

PHASE 2

Memorandum of Understanding

Broad Area Planning Initiative Memorandum of Understanding (171 Kb PDF)

On April 22, 2004 the Province of Manitoba and eight First Nations on the east side of Lake Winnipeg signed a Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.).  Since then the majority of the 16 First Nations on the east side have signed.

An M.O.U. is, in essence, an agreement to work together towards a common goal.

The signing of the M.O.U. is a historic step.  It is also the first step toward an equally historic event: establishing a Protocol of Agreement.  The protocol will ensure a sustainable future for the east side through a government to government relationship with communities that recognizes the uniqueness of this area.
