The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act (PIDA)

The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act (PIDA) facilitates the disclosure and investigation of wrongdoing, in or relating to public bodies, and protects employees who make disclosures from reprisal.

To learn more about PIDA, please go to the FAQ

PIDA applies to employees of government departments, Crown corporations, and a number of other government agencies, authorities and boards. All organizations that fall under the jurisdiction of PIDA are set out in the legislation and in the Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Regulation.

Should employees have concerns regarding matters that do not relate to a wrongdoing defined under PIDA, they are encouraged to consult their organization's policies and procedures. Legislation such as The Labour Relations Act, The Workplace Safety and Health Act, and The Human Rights Act, provide additional avenues to address employee concerns not covered under PIDA.
