The Financial and Administrative Services Branch ensures that financial and administrative policies, services and reporting systems are developed and administered to effectively meet management and internal requirements.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • directing the Department's annual budget exercise;
  • providing financial accounting services;
  • coordinating the development of departmental financial management policies, reporting mechanisms and providing support to managers;
  • coordinating administrative services, such as fleet vehicles, parking, purchasing and records management;
  • coordinating the attendance and scheduling of hearings for the Vulnerable Persons' Hearing Panel;
  • managing French Language Services for the Department and for a number of outside agencies that deliver services on the Department's behalf (click here for more information on the government's French language services policy); and
  • coordinating the Department's responses to requests for access to information under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Access to information

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) gives Manitobans and others the right to access records of public bodies, including Family Services and Consumer Affairs. It also provides for the protection of personal information held by the Department and other public bodies. As a result, requests for information are subject to certain restrictions as outlined in FIPPA.
