Domestic violence occurs in gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender relationships as often as it does in other relationships. It is a myth that domestic violence does not happen in same-sex relationships. It can be hard to admit the problem and get help. Even when the abuse is acknowledged, the couple may fear a homophobic (people who don’t like or are afraid of homosexuals) response from those who could help them.
If you are being abused, you:
Agencies that are funded through Family Violence Protection Program (FVPP) work with people of all sexual orientation.
For more help, call:
| Rainbow Resource Center | 204-474-0212 (Winnipeg) |
Without help, abusive relationships only get worse.
Contact one of the resources (see link below) for more information and find out how to create your own protection plan. If you are in an abusive relationship, or you know someone who may be, call 1-877-977-0007.
