Minister’s Message

As Manitoba’s Minister of Family Services and Consumer Affairs, I am pleased to welcome you to our website. We are committed to keeping you informed about the many services we provide Manitobans in collaboration with other departments and community organizations. This site includes details about our comprehensive programs and services and how to access the ones you need. There are also links to other non-governmental programs and services that may be of use.

I recognize the importance of engaging the broader community and building capacity to address social challenges within Manitoba. I also know how important it is to support children and their families and to provide more opportunities for persons with disabilities to be fully included in society and in the economy. I am proud of the many initiatives of our department, and I believe they help strengthen Manitoba families while reflecting and respecting our province’s great diversity. These initiatives are a key part of the province’s ALL Aboard poverty reduction and social inclusion strategy.

I also understand the need to serve Manitobans by working together both within our department and with our partners. We continue to work with other departments, health organizations and community partners to integrate health and social services at community ACCESS centres where citizens can get information and ask questions, obtain services and access a wide variety of programs at a one-stop location.

I encourage you to use this site to learn more about:

  • our significant work to improve the child welfare system, including the Changes for Children Action Plan
  • our commitment to early learning and child care through Family Choices: Manitoba’s Five‑Year Agenda for Early Learning and Child Care
  • the details of our programs to serve persons with disabilities, including the marketAbilities initiative
  • continuing efforts to improve supports for those in financial need, including our Rewarding Work strategy
  • ongoing work to prevent family violence and counter sexual exploitation, notably with Tracia’s Trust
  • consumer protection measures and available remedies
  • tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities and dispute resolution
  • regulatory frameworks for insurers and distributors of insurance products, cooperatives, credit unions and caisses populaires
  • assistance with appeals of internal review decisions concerning benefits under Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation's Personal Injury Protection Plan
  • registries for births, deaths and marriages, business and corporate names and information and interests in land and personal property

Thank you for your interest in Manitoba Family Service and Consumer Affairs and for taking the time to visit our website.
