Social Services Appeal Board Definitions

Appellants: people who want to appeal a decision made by the Department of Families

Chair: the person who is in charge of the appeal hearing

Court of Appeal: the Court of Appeal in Manitoba

Department: Families

Designated Officer: a person who has the legal responsibility for a decision under one of the acts designated in The Social Services Appeal Board Act (ex: usually the director of a Department of Families program)

EIA: Employment and Income Assistance

Order: the written decision of the Appeal Board and the written reasons for that decision

Respondent: the person representing the Department of Families at the appeal hearing. In some cases, the designated officer is also referred to as the respondent.
