Cannabis, weed, pot, marijuana, dope; these are all names for the buds or flowers of the Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica plants. This website has information about the effects of cannabis, risks, and myths in the sections below. Before exploring those sections, please note that:

  • Health Canada’s existing medical cannabis program will remain in place following legalization of retail cannabis.
  • It is illegal to drive while high. Driving high can double the likelihood of having a car accident. Cannabis slows your reaction time, attention span, memory function, and other skills needed to drive safely or engage in other high-speed activities like riding a bike, skiing, or skateboarding. The risk is even greater when alcohol is added into the mix.
If you or someone you care about is struggling with substance use, including cannabis use disorder, please contact either the Manitoba Addictions Helpline (1-855-662-6605) or the youth addictions centralized intake at 1-877-710-3999.
