Healthy Child Manitoba's FASD Initiatives
Connecting with FASD-related Supports and Services
In April 2007, the Government of Manitoba announced a co-ordinated fetal alcohol spectrum disorder strategy developed by an interdepartmental committee in consultation with experts and community stakeholders. The strategy builds upon existing multi-departmental, multi-million dollar prevention activities and service supports available for individuals with FASD throughout the lifespan. The strategy also supports the work of the Changes for Children initiative, designed to enhance the child welfare system.
An interdepartmental committee with representation from Healthy Child Manitoba Office, Health, Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors, Family Services and Consumer Affairs, Education, Justice, Aboriginal and Northern Affairs and the Changes for Children child and family services initiative has responsibility for implementing the strategy, with input from community partners.
Components of the strategy include:
September 9, 2009: PROVINCE INCREASES DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES, SUPPORT FOR MANITOBANS WITH FASD
September 9, 2008: PROVINCE LAUNCHES SPECTRUM CONNECTIONS, A FIRST-IN-CANADA MOBILE SUPPORT TEAM FOR PEOPLE WITH FASD
April 13, 2007: MANITOBA TO IMPLEMENT CO-ORDINATED FETAL ALCOHOL SPECTRUM DISORDER STRATEGY
The prevention of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and support of individuals with FASD is one of the core commitments of Healthy Child Manitoba.
Healthy Child Manitoba Office is responsible for implementing some of the new initiatives described in the FASD strategy and continues to support existing programs and services.
Healthy Child Manitoba's efforts include creating and supporting community partnerships, supporting families and individuals living with FASD, supporting prevention programs, and making resources available to the public. (More information on Healthy Child Manitoba's FASD Initiatives...)
