Between 1992 and 1999 the leading causes of injury in Manitoba were suicide, motor vehicle traffic injuries, falls and fractures, choking and suffocation, and assault. The leading causes of injury hospitalizations in Manitoba during the same period were falls, motor vehicle traffic injuries, self inflicted injuries, assault and struck by/against an object. Between 1992 and 2001, 5,702 Manitobans died as a result of injuries. Most of these injury deaths and hospitalizations were preventable.
