Incentives for Installing Geothermal Systems

Manitoba Geothermal Energy Incentive Program

Grant Application Form

The Province of Manitoba provides financial support of geothermal installations through a tax credit that increased as of April 13, 2011 and through Provincial Grants that were enhanced as of July 1, 2011 as outlined below:

  In harmony with nature and your pocket book
  • Existing & New Homes: Manitobans can now receive up to approximately $5,000 of incentives from the Province of Manitoba including a Green Energy Equipment Tax Credit worth about $2,400 and a $2,600 Grant for homes in natural gas service areas.

  • Commercial Buildings: Owners eligible to receive up to 15 per cent of the value of their installed geothermal systems.

  • District / Community Geothermal Systems that serve several buildings are eligible for a Provincial Grant up to a maximum of $150,000; and can also receive refundable tax credits up to 15%.

  • Manitoba heat pump manufacturers can receive up to 7.5 per cent of the price for qualifying heat pumps made and sold for use in the province.

The Manitoba Geothermal Energy Alliance (MGEA) will work with Manitobans in assessing geothermal options for their specific needs, providing certified installers and accessing various provincial, federal and Manitoba Hydro incentives. For more information on the MGEA, visit www.mgea.ca.

Green Energy Equipment Tax Credit

  • The Manitoba geothermal Grant Program complements the Manitoba Green Energy Equipment Tax Credit.

  • Property owners who install a qualifying geothermal heat pump system in Manitoba can receive refundable tax credits up to 15% for eligible equipment from the Government of Manitoba.
