Project Description

Main objectives:

The objective of this project is to provide a regional overview of the petroleum geology and stratigraphy of the Late Devonian Three Forks Formation and Early Mississippian Bakken Formation in southwest Manitoba.

Methodology:

  • Regional, detailed core logging of the Three Forks and Bakken formation.
  • Regional geophysical log correlations of every oil and gas well that penetrates the Three Forks Formation.
  • Structure and isopach mapping of the individual stratigraphic units/members.
  • Core analysis synthesis and evaluation of the Daly-Sinclair oil field areas.
  • Hydrocarbon assessment of the two formations

Benefits:

This provided much needed up-to-date stratigraphic and reservoir information and exploration prospects on Manitoba’s current largest oil play: the Devonian Three Forks Formation and Mississippian Bakken Formation.
