This Open File Report OF2000-5 (CD-ROM) is a preliminary release of an exploration database for platinum-group elements (PGEs) in Manitoba. It provides a compilation of geological and geochemical data for over 200 mafic and ultramafic intrusions in Manitoba that will aid in exploration for PGE. The report also includes new PGE data for black shales in Manitoba – a potential, future source for these metals.
The geochemical data should be used to establish background PGE and base metal abundances and trends and for geochemical classification of the intrusions. For a few of the occurrences, PGE data for mineralized (e.g. disseminated to massive sulphides) samples has been provided.
The current release provides a starting point for companies and individuals that are interested in exploring the Province’s many mafic and ultramafic intrusions for PGE and Cu-Ni sulphide mineralization.
