new - April 9, 2018 - Announcement - Manitoba Scaler's Licence Refresher Sessions 2018

Four Manitoba Scaler's Licence Refresher Sessions will be held in Manitoba in 2018.  Sessions will be held in Steinbach, Swan River and The Pas on the dates listed below.  There is no fee to attend the one day licence refresher. The fee for the Manitoba Scaler's Licence, which is valid for five years from the date of issue, is $50.00 payable by all candidates who apply for a Scaler's Licence following the successful completion of the scaling refresher session.

Session 1 – Thursday, September 6, 2018, Steinbach, Manitoba

Session 2 – Tuesday, September 11, 2018, Swan River, Manitoba

Session 3 – Wednesday, September 12, 2018, Swan River, Manitoba

Session 4 – Thursday, September 13, 2018, The Pas, Manitoba

Travel costs to and from the refresher and all meals and lodgings are the responsibility of the candidate. Approved hard hats, high visibility vests, safety boots and glasses along with clothing suitable for field work must be supplied by each candidate and are mandatory.

To register by August 1, 2018 call (204) 391-2133 or email: indicating the name(s) of any candidate(s) that will be attending the Scaler’s Licence Refresher so we may finalize our class numbers. Class size is limited and participants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

September 1, 2013 - Forestry Permits and Licences Fee Changes

Effective September 1, 2013 the following fees will be applicable to forestry permits and licence.

*New three (3) year licence term

Fee changes will affect current licence and permit holders upon licence/permit renewal (i.e. expiry). All licence and permit requirements and fees are outlined under The Forest Act and Forest Use and Management Regulation.  All other licence requirements remain unchanged and in effect.

Aboriginal/Treaty Domestic Use Timber Harvesting Policy

In October 2010, Manitoba Conservation – Forestry Branch updated the existing policy Domestic Use Timber Harvesting for Aboriginal/Treaty Rights Holders to reflect Sustainable Development's current understanding of aboriginal harvesting rights including Métis rights.

The Forest Act

The Forest Act received Royal Assent in 2009 and was Proclaimed on March 1, 2011 with accompanying regulations. The Act emphasizes: timber administration and pricing; timber tracking and scaling; and enforcement, penalties and offences.
