Urgent message for apprentices in the trades of Transport Trailer Technician, Truck and Transport Mechanic, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician and Agricultural Equipment Technician.
Due to low enrolment, the following classes will be cancelled unless apprentices register for the following classes prior to close of business Thursday, February 9, 2012:

Exemptions now available for Trades Qualification Practical Exams
On Oct. 17, 2011, the Manitoba government registered a regulatory amendment related to the practical exam requirements for Trades Qualification applicants in the trades of Automotive Painter, Bricklayer, Carpenter, Machinist, Motor Vehicle Body Repairer (Metal & Paint), Tool and Die Maker.
AccessManitoba Offers More Services
On December 5th, 2011 AccessManitoba will expand its online services to offer the ability to apply online for Trades Qualification, renew an Authorization to Practice and for employers to update their apprentices`Record of Hours online. Additional Manitoba Government partner program areas that will also offer services include; Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives, Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade (including Canada Manitoba Business Service Centre), Department of Family Services and Consumer Affairs, Department of Finance, Department of Innovation, Energy and Mines.
Important Changes to the Plumber and Steamfitter-Pipefitter Regulation
On August 31, 2011, the Manitoba government registered a new trade regulation for the Plumber and Steamfitter-Pipefitter trades that includes a Domestic Gasfitter training component to support the Domestic Gasfitter License.
Apprenticeship Awards of Distinction, November 4, 2011
Over 300 people attended fifth annual awards gala to recognize the talents and accomplishments of the Manitoba’s 2011 top nominees and to honour the top vocational projects from schools around Manitoba . Congratulations to all the recipients!
The 2011 awards of distinction winners are as follows;
Colors Beauty and Wellness( Employer of the Year –Urban), Sudernman’s Concrete (Employer of the Year –Rural), Morelite Electric (Employer of the Year –Internationally Experienced Tradespersons), Paul Brown, Machinist, FWS Group (Journeyperson of the Year –Urban), Dain Lanouette, Industrial Instrument Mechanic, MB Hydro ((Journeyperson of the Year –Rural), Hal Hokanson, RRC Plumbing Instructor ( Instructor of the Year). Name change for Motor Vehicle Body Repairer and Motor Vehicle Body Painter
On Oct. 17, 2011, the Manitoba government registered two trade regulations to replace the regulation for the trade of Motor Vehicle Body Repairer. The regulations for Motor Vehicle Body Repairer (Metal and Paint) and Automotive Painter introduce new trade names and updated scopes of the trade. Universal Exam Sittings - Starting this Fall
Apprenticeship Manitoba will offer regularly scheduled exam sittings that are open to registration in all trades across Manitoba. This flexibility in planning is available to qualifying apprentices, trade qualifiers and clients from Inspection and Technical Services Manitoba. Apply for the exam early to ensure a date and time that works best for you.

Minimum Apprenticeship Training Wages Increase - October 1, 2011
As of October 1st, 2011, apprenticeship minimum training wages will increase to reflect the provincial wage change of $10.00/hr.
Apprenticeship introduces AccessManitoba - Services include online application, course registration and payment
AccessManitoba introduces a new way to access government programs and services all in one place - interact online, by phone, or in person. AccessManitoba alsoprovides self service website where profile information can be updated, an Apprenticeship Application can be submitted, and apprentices can register and pay for Apprenticeship Technical Training. Consider registering online for 2011-2012 and avoid in-person, telephone wait times. Login and registration information will be distributed to apprentices the week of June 20th, 2011. Employers currently registered with Apprenticeship Manitoba will also receive login instructions in the coming weeks.

New Tendering Requirement Policy for Publically Funded Capital Projects
On June 17th, 2011, The Manitoba government announced three new policies that will expand the skills of the workforce and ensure compliance with safety requirements on publicly funded projects. These include an apprenticeship training policy, initial phase effective July 1st, 2011 where bidders with more than 20 employees and all mechanical contractors, bidders and subcontractors, must be engaged in apprenticeship training.
