Fire Prevention Week

Fire won't wait. Plan your escape.

Fire Prevention Week - October 9 to 15, 2022

The 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week was held from October 9 to 15, 2022, with the theme of “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape”.

Learn and practice simple, but important actions that can help keep you, your loved ones and your neighbours safe from fires at home.

School Contest

The The Manitoba Firefighter’s Burn Fund, Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs, the Manitoba government and the Office of the Fire Commissioner encouraged Elementary students from across the province, kindergarten to grade 4 to participate in Fire Prevention Week and draw a map of their home, showing two ways out of every room in case of an emergency.  Once they have practiced their home fire escape plan with their family, many submitted their plan along with a contest entry form for a chance to win a $200 gift card, and fun, fire prevention material for their classmates and teacher.

In total 449 elementary students across Manitoba submitted their Home Fire Escape Plan and contest entry form, and just by doing that, there are 449 safer families and homes across Manitoba than there was before!
