Project Description

Main objectives:

The objectives of this project are to document in detail the geological setting and structural controls of vein hosted gold mineralization in the area of the past-producing Ogama-Rockland and Central Manitoba mines the eastern portion of the Rice Lake greenstone belt, southeast Manitoba.

Methodology:

This project will employ a multidisciplinary approach that includes detailed (1:5000 scale, or larger) geological mapping of bedrock exposures and recently stripped outcrops in conjunction with structural analysis, lithogeochemistry, U-Pb and Re-Os geochronology, and alteration studies of mineralization and hostrocks.

Benefits:

This project will build on the results of the Rice Lake metallogeny project (MGS 2002-2013) and the Rice Lake mine trend project (MGS 2011-2013) to gain a better understanding of gold metallogeny in the Rice Lake belt, and will provide valuable new geoscientific data to the mineral exploration industry.
