C2C: Two-Spirit & Queer/Trans People of Colour Calls to Action
In 2017, the University of Winnipeg held the C2C: Two-Spirit & Queer/Trans People of Colour: A Call to Conversation conference. This event was in partnership with Two-Spirited (2S) People of Manitoba Inc. and Queer & Trans People of Colour (QTPOC) Winnipeg. The three-day event brought together around 150 people. This included 2S/QTPOC individuals, allies, scholars, activists, community members and elders/traditional knowledge holders. They discussed gender and sexual diversity within racialized contexts. From these conversations, Calls to Action (CTA) were made. They focus on discrimination based on gender identity, race and sexuality. Recommendations were offered for individuals, institutions, governments and cultural organizations.
The CTAs that align with ISB focus on:
- Implementing inclusive training and education
- Equitable hiring practices
- Creating leadership pathways for 2S/QTPOC Justice staff
ISB supports Justice staff by offering health and wellness resources. This support comes from spiritual care providers. This ensures 2S/QTPOC individuals have the support they need at work including access to Indigenous ceremonies. ISB also offers education and training focused on 2S/QTPOC identities. They are developing strategies to improve recruitment and retention. This will help expand career advancement for 2S/QTPOC Justice staff.
