Keeyask Generating Station

On July 5, 2014, Conservation and Water Stewardship issued an Interim Licence for the proposed Keeyask Generating station under the Water Power Act to the Keeyask Hydropower Limited Partnership, a legal entity involving Manitoba Hydro and four Manitoba First Nations - Tataskweyak, York Factory, Fox Lake and War Lake, to use and store water for power generation purposes at the Keeyask site on the Nelson River.

The proposal includes the construction of a 695-megawatt (MW) hydroelectric generating station at Gull Rapids on the lower Nelson River, immediately upstream of Stephens Lake. Other proposed primary works include a spillway, and dykes to contain the reservoir which would be created upstream of the principal structures.
