Eating healthy foods during pregnancy is very important for you and your growing baby. If you live in Manitoba and have a low to moderate income (net family income less than $32,000 a year), the Manitoba government will send you a monthly cheque during pregnancy to help you eat well while you are pregnant.
The amount you will receive is based on how much money you (and your spouse, if you are married or living common law) made last year. You could get between $10.00 to $81.41 a month. If you receive income assistance, you will be eligible for $81.41. (Sample benefits ...)
The benefit can start in the month of your 14th week of pregnancy and will end in the month your baby is due. After your baby is born, federal child benefits are available.
Apply as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed. Make sure your application is complete to avoid a delay in starting your benefit.
The Healthy Baby cheques are mailed from Winnipeg on the last Friday of every month.
Community Support Programs offer group sessions for pregnant women, their partners and parents with babies under the age of one year. Programs offer information, resources and social support during your pregnancy and after your baby is born. (List of Community Support Programs ...) To find out how you can connect with programs in your area, call 945-1301 (in Winnipeg) or toll-free 1-888-848-0140.
