Horticulture School

The Horticulture School (formerly Horticulture Diagnostic School) is an annual event presented by Manitoba Agriculture (MB Ag), Agriculture Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) - Portage and Assiniboine Community College (ACC). The school provides horticulture producers with learning opportunities to improve yield and quality of their crops.

This event is of interest to market gardeners, vegetable and fruit producers. It is a full day event requiring pre-registration.
The school provides a unique and comprehensive hands-on approach to learning:
- Pathology - Non-conventional disease management.
- Fruit - Biennial field raspberry production demo, high tunnel raspberry update, rhubarb evaluation update and high tunnel fruit update.
- Vegetable - Seed "priming", late blight resistant tomato trials results and update on high tunnel research.
- Entomology - Greenhouse bio-controls, Europe Corn Borer, Spotted Wing Drosophila and assessment of sweep net samples from three horticulture crops.
- Soils - Soil sampling procedure/demonstration, interpretation of soil test results and fertility recommendations.
- Weeds - Demonstration of "low risk" herbicide alternatives in horticultural crops.

Pre-registration is required, please call the Primary Agriculture Branch at 204-745-5652 or email.
- Registration fee is $30 per person (includes lunch and refreshments). It is payable by cash or cheque payable to the Prairie Fruit Growers Association.
- Location is at Agriculture Agri-Food Canada Research Farm (formerly CMCDC), 370 River Road, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
- School will run rain or shine.
- Certified Crop Advisor credits are available for participants.
