Educational Opportunities for Employees

POLICY STATEMENT
Date: February 26, 2022

Purpose:

To support the ongoing renewal and enrichment of the public service, The Public Service Act recognizes that educational opportunities enrich the workplace culture by investing in the continued growth and development of employees. The ongoing learning and development of public servants is also critical to ensure Manitoba's Public Service continues to provide high quality services and programs to Manitobans, now and in the future.

Policy Statement:

The Public Service Commission is committed to sustaining a professional, high performing, modern public service through ongoing education and training of employees. Formal and informal learning and development is valued and supported through various policies, programs and initiatives, including through the Learning Policy, Educational Leave and/or Assistance Policy, and Performance Development Policy; initiatives such as the Learning Fund; and resources such as Employee Networks and learning plans. A broad range of training services are offered to employees through their departments, as well as through the Public Service Commission, which offers development programs that provide specialized skills for continued growth in the public service. Secondments, interchanges, and other opportunities for job mobility also provide excellent educational opportunities for employees.

The Manitoba government is committed to harnessing the talents of public servants by investing in their development and growth, which will help transform our culture into one that is client-focused, outcomes-driven and solution-oriented.
