Evacuation Recovery Assistance

Manitoba is providing a one-time financial assistance payment to support eligible Manitobans evacuated from their homes as a result of wildfire WE010. The recovery payment is $200 for each adult, and $100 for each child under 18 years of age. Impacted communities included:

  • Cranberry Portage
  • Sourdough Bay
  • Whitefish Lake
  • Twin Lakes
  • Schist Lake North
  • Bakers Narrows


Eligibility:

To qualify for the recovery assistance payment, an individual must:

  • been ordered to evacuate their home under a mandatory evacuation order;
  • been evacuated for a minimum of seven (7) days
  • be a registered evacuee with Emergency Social Services (ESS)


Financial Assistance:

Registered evacuees who have evacuated their home as a result of an evacuation order for more than seven (7) days are eligible to receive:

  • $200 for an adult, 18 years or older;
  • $100 for each child under the age of 18.


How Will Payments Be Issued:

  • Payments will be distributed beginning May 22, 2024 in the following communities by Emergency Social Services representatives (locations to be confirmed):
    • Flin Flon
      Provincial Building
      102-143 Main Street, Flin Flon
      Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm
    • Cranberry Portage
      LUD of Cranberry Portage Administration Office
      105 Portage Road, Cranberry Portage
      Hours: 10:00am - 4:30pm
  • In the event that a payment cannot be picked up by Saturday May 25th, the payment will be mailed to recipients May 27, 2024.

How to Apply:

Payments will be issued to eligible Manitobans who are registered with Emergency Social Services (ESS). If you meet the eligibility criteria, and did not register with ESS, please contact us by email at essevacuations@gov.mb.ca and one of our representatives will contact you to complete the registration. Make sure to include:

  • Your name
  • Home address
  • Mailing address
  • Contact phone number

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I'm registered with Emergency Social Services (ESS)?

  • ESS registrations were taken at one of the reception centres located in Flin Flon and The Pas, by phone, or through a partnering organization, including the Department of Municipal and Northern Relations, Manitoba Parks, Manitoba Métis Federation, or the rural Municipality of Kelsey.
  • IF you have received accommodations support, or per diem reimbursement, you are already registered with ESS. No further action is required on your part.
  • If you did not receive ESS supports (accommodations and a per diem payment) during the evacuation, and meet the eligibility criteria, please see the "How to Apply" section for registration instructions.

When will payments be issued?

Payments will be issued onsite in the communities of Cranberry Portage and Flin Flon. If a payment is not picked up during the hours of operation, payments will be mailed to recipients on May 27, 2024. Please see the "How Will Payments Be Issued" section for additional details.
