Project Description

Main objectives:

This project will investigate the potential for economic Zn-Pb and/or Au-Ag-Pt mineralization related to hydrothermal brine migration within Ordovician, Silurian and Devonian carbonate stratigraphy in the Interlake region.

Methodology:

  • Compilation of published reports, assessment files and geophysical data for the project area.
  • Documentation and sampling of key drillcore, including collecting stratigraphic data, of exploration, petroleum, and Manitoba Geological Survey stratigraphic drillcore.
  • Field investigations of stratigraphic and structural controls (e.g., karst or reactivated basement structures) on hydrothermal activity and subsequent MVT Zn-Pb/Prairie-type Au-Ag-Pt mineralization.
  • Indicator mineral (e.g., barite, sphalerite, galena, kimberlite-indicator minerals) and geochemistry of glacial till from the study area may prove or refute the extent of base-metal enrichment beyond the Pemmican Island area and/or provide regional vectors to MVT, Prairie-type mineralization, etc.

Benefits:

The proposed summary report and map will be geared for mineral exploration in the region, summarizing features including structural lineaments, regional magnetic and gravity data, known Pb-Zn occurrences, and till geochemistry and indicator mineral results. Confirmation of MVT-style mineralization, presented along with exploration indicators, may spur further exploration spending in the region.

Plans for fiscal year 2020–2021:

  • Produce Open File report with compilation of base metal values from Phanerozoic strata in the Lake Winnipegosis area.
