Passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

In Appreciation: Queen Elizabeth II – 1926 – 2022

“I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong,” vowed young Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation 70 years ago.

As Manitobans join the rest of the world in mourning the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, it is clear that Her Majesty kept that promise, embarking on an extraordinary seven-decade reign, while epitomizing a commitment to duty and service, always with admirable remarkable grace and dignity.

Often a calming presence in uncertain times, Her Majesty brought support, comfort, encouragement, and joy to millions of people around the world, in the Commonwealth and beyond, through her warmth, wisdom and humanity. A popular cultural icon, she was recognized and respected around the globe, not only as a monarch and world leader, but also as a matriarch, animal lover and patron of hundreds of charities.

Manitobans were fortunate to have had the honour of hosting Her Majesty during her six official visits to our province. Whether the setting was a gala dinner or a casual walkabout, Her Majesty’s presence brought an air of excitement to citizens of all ages and backgrounds, in all parts of the province, who responded to her attention with a level of interest and affection that was clearly mutual.

Her passing on Sept. 8, 2022 represents the end of an era, the earthly conclusion of a life well-lived, and a sombre, but gratifying, reminder of a remarkable reign of such longevity that it is unlikely to ever be matched.

Manitobans extend sincere condolences to King Charles III and all members of the Royal Family, wishing them peace and comfort, as we join them, and millions around the world, in bidding a fond farewell to a truly amazing woman.

Thank you, Your Majesty…Long live the King!
