MANITOBA'S NEW SENIORS' ADVOCATE

The Government of Manitoba committed to improving care for seniors by creating an independent Seniors' Advocate. The Seniors' Advocate Act was introduced on May 6, 2024. The Bill received Royal Assent on November 7, 2024. The Seniors' Advocate Act was proclaimed and came into force on Nov. 1, 2025. Leigh Anne Caron was appointed as Manitoba's first Seniors' Advocate and began on November 12, 2025.

The independent advocate reports to the legislative assembly and is tasked with identifying and evaluating issues faced by seniors and elders and making recommendations to government. These recommendations could be on a wide range of government services including health care, housing and government programs and supports.
