Manitoba Youth Job Centres provide community-based summer employment referral services throughout rural and northern Manitoba. Local employers, as well as students and youth from 13 to 29, receive FREE assistance matching qualified job seekers with summer employment.
The Centres also provide students and youth with important information and education on career development and employment-related skills such as labour regulations, workplace health and safety, resume preparation, interview assistance, job-search techniques and post-secondary assistance.
Offices are open from mid May to late August each year. Drop by your local community office during the summer for more information, or contact the MYJC coordinator year-round in Winnipeg, at 204-945-3966.
Offices are operated by the Manitoba government in cooperation with community-based Host Organizations in rural locations throughout Manitoba.

Then the Odd Job Squad is the program for you!
Rural MYJC offices operate the Odd Job Squad. This casual labor program for 13-16 year olds provides supervised first-work and volunteer experiences for young people like you looking to gain hands-on career-related skills and experience – experience that will help you build your resume to get your first job.
Odd Job Squad participants take part in activities such as car washes, Canada Day window painting, kids’ carnivals and other great casual work activities.
To join your local Odd Job Squad, come in to any rural MYJC office. Remember, you’ll need your parent’s permission!

What can the MYJC do for you?
The MYJC can:
- Connect you with employers in your community who are hiring
- Help you write your first resume or improve the one you already have
- Help you to prepare for interviews
- Show you how to effectively search for jobs
- Teach you about workplace health and safety and labor regulations
- Provide information on government and community-based programs and initiatives, such as student loans, and trades and apprenticeships
- Post secondary assistance including exploring options, admission requirements, career paths, course requirements, navigating the university webpage, program dates and deadlines
All of these services are provided free of charge and no appointment is necessary.

Do you need to hire summer help?
Looking for a cost-effective recruitment method?
The MYJC program provides a free referral service to employers. Our staff is trained to match qualified, enthusiastic student and youth workers to summer employment opportunities, both permanent and casual.
You can either contact or visit your local office to complete a Job Order Form. Let us know how many positions you have and tell us about the specifics of the job (skills needed, salary, etc.).
In our rural offices, staff will refer qualified job seekers directly to you. In our urban centres, staff will post your job opportunity on the Job Bank. Job seekers visiting the centre will be referred to the Job Bank and coached on how to access the available jobs.
And remember, the final hiring decision is always yours! There is no obligation to hire students and youth who are referred to you or who apply to your Job Bank posting.
Parents and Educators
Parents, if your child is interested in participating in the Odd Job Squad program or in registering for work in your community, you are both welcome to visit the local MYJC Office or to call the Program Coordinator for more information.
All Odd Job Squad events are fully supervised by the Youth Engagement Leader. Youth Engagement Leaders are trained in workplace health and safety and all events have been reviewed to ensure all precautions are taken so that your child can have a positive, fun and safe experience.
If your child has registered for the job referral program, the Youth Engagement Leader will contact him/her should a position come available that matches his/her stated interests and availability. Youth Engagement Leaders will make every attempt to contact your child; however, it is up to the child to stay in contact with the Youth Engagement Leader as well as to contact the prospective employer he/she is referred to discuss interview times and job specifics.
Once your child has been hired by an employer, all employment details, such as rate of pay, time off etc., are arranged between your child and the employer. However, the Youth Engagement Leader will continue to be a resource should you or your child have any questions regarding workplace health and safety, labor laws etc.
Educators, Youth Engagement Leaders and Youth Services Officers are available starting the second week of May to deliver presentations to schools, youth groups and any other student/youth-focused programs on career and employability topics such as resume preparation, post-secondary career options and interview skills. Youth Engagement Leader Positions
Are you looking for a great summer job?
We’re looking for confident, energetic, post-secondary students looking for a challenge this summer working with youth in their local communities across Manitoba.
Manitoba Youth Job Centres are located throughout rural and northern Manitoba. As a MYJC Youth Engagement Leader, you’ll work in your home community and help youth make summer employment connections.
You’ll be helping local youth, working full-time for approximately 15 weeks, gaining valuable leadership experience on your resume, and you’ll have the opportunity to build supervisory, communication and event panning skills, which will all help you succeed in whatever career path you choose down the line.
We want candidates who are looking for a challenge to use their motivation, energy and leadership skills to network and partner with local business and organizations in your community to help develop and operate the local Manitoba Youth Job Centre.
Responsibilities include:
- operating a local community employment referral program for students, youth and employers
- organizing and operating youth first-work experience community programs
- developing and delivering training and educational presentations to students and youth
- making presentations on job search, career development and employability skills in local community classrooms and other venues
- promoting and advertising MYJC programs and services throughout the community
- providing information and access to other government and community programs
Are you Eligible?
All applicants must:
- be a resident of Manitoba
- be a student currently attending a post-secondary institution and planning to return to studies in the Fall of 2023
- have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
- register with STEP services
- be bilingual for certain office locations (indicated in the “Office locations” section of this site)
Successful applicants must:
- be available to start employment the second week of May and continue in the full-time position until the end of August
- attend a paid 3-day training session in Winnipeg (accommodations, meals and mileage/travel expenses are also paid) prior to beginning work at community MYJC offices
All offers of employment will be contingent upon submission of satisfactory criminal record and child abuse registry check.
