Overview

This section provides information on a number of well-paying jobs in Manitoba that offer good opportunities for future employment.

In order to determine what jobs Manitobans may want to consider when planning their careers, entering training or contemplating a change in career pathways, the outlook weighs a number of factors to arrive at the final list:

 

1. How many job opportunities will be available?

The forecasted number of job openings in individual occupations, the ratio of openings to current employment levels and the forecasted rate of employment growth are considered. Occupations with a large number of openings, both in terms of the number of openings and their and ratio compared to employment levels, and those with a faster employment growth offer more opportunities to job seekers.

 

2. How easy will it be to get a job in the future?

Occupations with a relatively lower expected future unemployment rate provide easier opportunities for Manitobans to find employment in the future.

 

3. How easy is it to get a job now?

The recent unemployment rates in individual jobs and the ratio of Employment Insurance (EI) beneficiaries to employment in those jobs are considered to determine the relative ease of finding employment. Occupations with a lower unemployment rate and a lower ratio of EI beneficiaries to employment offer more opportunities to Manitoba’s job seekers.

 

4. How well does the job pay?

Occupations with higher prevailing wage rates compared to other jobs requiring the same education present better opportunities for Manitobans to support themselves.

 

These four factors were weighed against each other to determine the 10 jobs in each of the four educational requirements categories of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system that are expected to provide the greatest opportunities for well-paying employment in the next five years. Occupations with fewer than 100 expected job openings between 2022 and 2026 and those for which not all data points were available were not included.

The table below shows the top 10 occupations for each of the four NOC educational requirement categories that are expected to have the best employment outlook over the next five years.
