On June 21, 2021, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act came into effect. This legislation aims to implement UNDRIP. It is a key step in improving the Government of Canada’s relationship with Indigenous Peoples. ISB values Indigenous Peoples’ history and respects the rights of Indigenous Peoples. It supports their religious traditions, ceremonies, medicines and health practices at work.
UNDRIP sets out the rights of Indigenous Peoples around the world. The main human rights tools under UNDRIP include declarations, conventions and treaties. These aim to define and protect human rights in international law. The declaration contains 46 articles containing collective and individual rights.
