Health Promotion and Wellness

 

The Health Promotion and Wellness Branch provides strategic direction and funding to wellness programs. By working with our community partners, we help to improve the health outcomes of Manitobans. The Department's five-year plan: A Pathway to Mental Health and Community Wellness: A Roadmap for Manitoba guides this work.

To implement the plan, we develop partnerships and service agreements with:

  • community organization
  • service delivery organizations
  • other provincial government departments
  • other levels of government

Many factors play a role in a person's health and wellness. The branch takes a holistic approach to health promotion and chronic disease prevention. This includes policy development, planning, funding and oversight in in the following areas:

 

What is wellness?

Wellness — a process of learning of and making choices towards a healthy and fulfilling life.

It is influenced by many things, including:

  • mental health
  • physical health
  • intellectual opportunity
  • socioeconomic status
  • social relationships
  • environmental factors
  • culture
  • spiritual dimensions

These factors are all connected and impact and build on another.

The term well-being includes all the ways in which people experience and think about their lives positively. Well-being is fluid and can change over time.
