Employers are responsible for paying employees properly for all hours worked.
Employees and Employers are sometimes unsure what can be deducted or held by the employer from those wages. The general rule is that employers can only deduct money that is required by a law, or money that the employee agrees to pay for something that is a direct benefit to them.

Employers and employees need to keep accurate records of the hours worked and the amount paid for those hours. Employers must pay employees for all hours they work and explain how the pay was calculated. The Employment Standards Branch requires employers to keep some pay records for three years.Volunteers
The Employment Standards Code provides a variety of options to allow employees, who are essentially volunteers, to earn a wage or honorarium but still remain a volunteer.Wage for reporting for work
Sometimes employees are scheduled to work a shift and then the shift is cancelled or shortened. In other situations employees are called in to work when they were not scheduled. Employees who report for work are paid for at least three hours work, or their full shift, whichever is less.What is Minimum Wage?

Effective immediately Employment Standards is posting the Administrative Penalties we have issued against employers who have violated the Employment Standards Code or the Construction Industry Wages Act.
Effective October 1, 2011 the minimum wage for all employees will increase to $10.00
Effective January 1, 2012 there are 4 changes to the Employment Standards Code
1. Allowing Employment Standards to consider applications for Averaging Permits from all industries
2. Allowing employees and employers to enter into individual flex-time agreements
3. Allowing compensatory time off for General Holidays in climate-controlled agricultural operations
4. Changing the exceptions for notice on termination from “Wilful Misconduct” to “Just Cause”
