More about the BMG

The bibliography compilation project was started in April 1985 under the Canada-Manitoba Mineral Development Agreement. Initially available in print copy only, the first publication containing 3,350 references was released in 1986. Now searchable on-line, the BMG database contains over 13,000 references to publications on Manitoba geology dating as far back as 1795.

The BMG is updated and maintained by the Mineral Resources Library. The major sources for new references include:

  • the American Geological Institute GeoRef database
  • the Geological Survey of Canada’s GEOSCAN database
  • other on-line databases

Bibliographic records contain some or all of the following information:

Author, Date, Title, Monographic Title, Monographic Author, Publisher, Place, Report Series, Report No, Internal File, Thesis degree and University, Map Series, Map No, Map Scale, Journal, Conference Name and Location, Conference Publication, Volume, Page, No of Pages, NTS Area, Notes, Abstract, Keywords, ISBN, ISSN, Medium Source Format, Alternative Series, Call No., Purchasing Information

Note: references for some publications have not been indexed by NTS area or Keyword descriptors. For the most comprehensive search results, use Boolean operators.
