Brand Registration

Overview
The Brands Registry is Manitoba’s official livestock identification program. It maintains records of all registered livestock brands in the province and manages the issuance of brand certificates, receipts, renewals, and cancellations.
The program operates under The Livestock and Livestock Products Act.
 
Applying for a New Brand
The fee to register a livestock brand in Manitoba is $26.25 ($25.00 + GST) per brand, location, and species.
To apply:
  1. Complete the Application For Registration of a Brand  
  2. Provide three (3) proposed brand designs.
  3. Your choices will be checked against the database for availability.
  4. Review the Rules for Designing Brands  for acceptable design criteria.
  5. Submit the completed form with a cheque or money order made payable to the Minister of Finance.
Once approved, a brand certificate and receipt will be mailed to you.
Brand Renewal
  • Brands are valid for five (5) years.
  • A Renewal Notice will be mailed at the end of each term.
  • Renewal cost: $26.25 ($25.00 + GST).
  • Lifetime brands are not offered in Manitoba.
If a brand is not renewed, it will be placed on hold for five (5) additional years before becoming available to a new owner.
Important: Brand owners are responsible for notifying the Registry of any changes to address or phone number to ensure renewal notices are received.
 
Changing Ownership or Name on a Brand
To change the name on a brand or transfer ownership:
  1. Complete the  Application for Change of Name or Transfer of Registered Brand.
  2. Have the form witnessed by a Commissioner of Oaths, Notary Public, or Justice of the Peace.
  3. Once processed, the new owner will receive a certificate and receipt by mail.
